Casa Noor

Noor (rhymes with lure) means "light" in Arabic and you will enjoy touches of North African/Middle Eastern design in this essentially southwestern style home. A chief feature of Casa Noor is a center atrium/garden room with a breathtaking overhead skylight; you can sleep under the brilliant starlight of Taos in any season.. Three of the rooms have outstanding views of Taos Mountain. This two-year old house also features graceful arches, a barrel-vaulted hall, and the "footprint" of an eight-pointed star that is echoed in the atrium tiling.

Casa Noor is an architect-designed custom-built strawbale and adobe house. With radiant heating under the New Mexico limestone floor and excellent solar gain, warmth and light flow through entire house. Superb plaster walls in butter, sky blue, Tibetan white, light gold, and warm red mean that each room has a different character.

A large kiva fireplace plastered in "wildfire red" is the chief feature of the cozy living room that has a window box which can serve as an extra bed. It is adjacent to a large open kitchen that has granite slab countertops, an island bar, stainless steel appliances and magnificent floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Mountain.The pure white master suite, also with a view of Taos Mountain, features a queen-size canopy bed, kiva fireplace, douglas fir beams, and another window seat. It also features a walk-in closet and a white and green marble bathroom with two-person deep tub. The golden second bedroom has both a queen-size and a twin bed. The third bedroom has a very comfortable new queen-size futon bed. The second bath has a large walk-in shower and Mexican tiling plus a sky tube for extra light.

The 1.25 acre property also features an outdoor five-person hot tub and a natural gas grill. On the north side of town close to the intersection of the ski valley road (NM150) and the main road to town (US84), Casa Noor is 20 minutes from the ski valley by car and a 10 minute drive to the center of town. The house is ideal for three couples or larger families or groups.
